In late summer 2017 I was commissioned to photograph three CEOs for a feature story on responsible leadership for the fall issue of Viewpoints, a magazine produced and published by UBC’s Sauder School of Business. It was such a privilege to meet and photograph these inspirational leaders of today’s business community in settings away from their offices. The creative concept from the editor and lead designer was to photograph the three individuals showing a more playful side as the theme for the feature evolved into “Hear. See. Speak.” to convey how they lead their companies/organizations through transparency. Each of them has contributed to our community in important ways and  share their unique perspectives on what leadership should look like int he 21st century. I also photographed David Labistour, CEO of  Mountain Equipment Co-op, for the cover with the theme of “Finding True North” – perfectly fitting for such an avid outdoorsman. Along with David, Sue Paish (CEO of lifelabs) and Jim Gilliland (President and CEO of lifelabs Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd.) were incredibly humble and agreeable to having some fun with the concept. I think that they, too, were happy to get out of the office for a different kind of photo session than they’re used to. And since they all seem to genuinely enjoy the outdoors, it made my job a whole lot easier. Below are the cover and some of the spreads from the magazine.
